The most common mistake is making a product decision instead of a value decision. Organizations need to ask themselves if they just want to buy a product or work with a true technology partner who will focus on applying the technology that will provide the desired outcomes. There’s a big difference between a product vendor and a technology partner and therefore a big difference between price/product-based decisions and value-based decisions. There are a lot of vendors out there, and many of them make promises they can’t deliver on so it’s important to test and verify. Ask for proof sources.
Also, many vendors will take a “rip-and-replace” approach when it comes to a customer’s technology infrastructure. At Status Solutions, we do site assessments on an individual, case-by-case basis to evaluate a customer’s unique technology environment and determine how we can create a custom solution that will solve the business challenge while allowing existing investments to be used. Our approach is one of technology integration and interoperability. We don’t care what hardware and software may already be in place because we can make sure all of the different languages and protocols “play nice together.” It’s the difference between a mass production business model and a mass customization business model, or an off-the-rack dress versus an haute couture creation.
